She started her career as a model before acting in her debut film Baazigar (1993), her first leading role was for the movie Aag (1994), which was an average fair at the box office. Shetty went on to doing many poor to average box office movies.

In 2007, Shetty was a contestant and winner of Celebrity Big Brother, UK and since then has re-established herself in Bollywood, acting in such films like Life In A Metro and Apne both earing critical and box office success.

Shilpa is now currently hosting the popular Indian reality show Bigg Boss on the colors network.
