In terms of a story the film is extremely unorignal. Love triangles have been witnessed time and time again and AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE offers nothing new here. Two friends Karan(Sonu Sood) and Vicky(Emraan Hashmi) fall in love with the same girl Sneha(Tanushree Dutta). Karan is the quiet and shy type who has never been able to express his love to Sneha, Vicky on the other hand is the hip n cool playboy who is a shameless flirt.
Vicky wins Sneha over who falls madly in love with him. Karan is unhappy at first but later accepts their love..all is going well until one night Sneha finds Vicky in bed with another women. A shattered Sneha breaksup with Vicky who pulls out his mean streak. Later Vicky is arrested on drug charges as well...
Sneha accepts reality and decides to marry Karan-but that same night Vicky arrives for one last night......what happens next?
Although the story by Aditya Datt has nothing novel to offer the first half does manage to keep the viewer fairly engaged mainly due to the spirited performances by Emraan Hashmi and Tanushree Dutta and the chart busting tunes by Himesh Reshammiya. The screenplay moves at a brisk and steady pace in the first half. Its the second half where the film comes undone. The loopholes in the screenplay pile up one after the other which nearly undoes the whole movie. The entire finale has been poorly written as well.
As a director Aditya Datt makes a fairly good debut but one wishes he had chosen something more orignal. The writer(Datt himself) nearly ruins it for Datt the director.
Nevertheless proves he knows his mettle well and connects the viewers with all three characters well. The chemistry between the lead players has been well executed in the first half. The second half which should've been the turning point of the movie is a mess. The much expected "twist" in the pre-climax comes across unconvincing and lacks the much needed punch. Even the entire climax is full of loopholes and fails to impress. One feels Datt had taken the viewer for granted and lost interest in what he was making..
In terms of performances the movie is a mixed bag.
Emraan Hashmi plays a role that is tailormade for him and yet again comes across with flying colours. He plays the naughty playboy with extreme confidence and charm and yet plays to the gallery. The character he plays does have shades from Sunny in MURDER as well and suits Hashmi very well. Sadly the director hasn't handled Hashmi well in the second half or made full use of his immense talent.
Sonu Sood is below average in his part. The talented actor doesn't look the character of a college student. Throughout the movie he has the same wooden expression and given his character he isn't even able to express through his eyes.
Tanushree Dutta gives a confident performance for her debut performance and impresses. The gorgeous actress is eye-candy and is full of talent. Her delivery is great and she exudes charm throughout. She exudes sexual confidence as well and does well in the imtimate scenes which don't come across as sleazy.Even in the emotional scenes she is natural, with the right choice in films this girl can go a long way...
The supporting cast have minimal to do and fail to leave a mark.
The music in the film is EXCELENT and elevates the film to a certain degree. Himesh Reshammiya pulls a surprise winner with a racy and upbeat soundtrack which has immense repeat value. The tracks have been well picturised as well. The title track is packed with sizzle which will please the male viewers as Tanushree Dutta entices the viewers with her figure. AAPKI KASHISH and MARJAVA MITJAVA deserves a special mention.....the album ranks as one of Reshammiyas best!
Technically the film has been well show by A.K Sebastian and has a slick look throughout.
Overall AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE is a average movie which is salvaged by the performances from Emraan Hashmi, the stunning Tanushree Dutta and Reshammiyas brilliant musical score. One just wishes wishes that Aditya Datt had concentrated more on the story or thought of something more orignal....better luck next time!
Final Rating: * * * ½
