Director Indra Kumar has had a reasonably superb track record as far as the boxoffice is concerned. His movie are the type which can be called complete "masala" films replete with typical storylines, cliched love stories, loud and crude comedy as well as hit music. DIL, BETA, RAJA and ISHQ all hit the jackpot in a big way. After that Kumars formula started to wear thing and he was struck with 3 massive flops in the form of MANN, AASHIQ and RISHTEY until he re-invented himself with the smash hit MASTI which introduced the "Sex Comedy" genre in a big way to Bollywood. His next film after MASTI was hugely awaite and when he announced it would be a comedy about a blind and deaf guy with Fardeen Khan(fresh after NO ENTRY) and Viviek Anand Oberoi as well as the two hotties Amrita Rao and Esha Deol and funnyman Boman Irani people were interested to see what Indra Kumar was cooking up. So is the result a outright entertainer/comedy that strikes all the right chords? 50%!

The story? Pyaare (Fardeen Khan) and Mohan(Viviek Anand Oberoi) were two stuntmen who after a freak accident became disabled. Pyaare went blind and Mohan went deaf. The two then opened up a little Archies shop and both await love in their lonely lives. The duo accidentially run into two sisters Preeti(Esha Deol) and Priya(Amrita Rao) and both brothers fall hopelessly in love. Just before Preeti and Priya leave for overseas Pyaare Mohan tell the girls that they are in love with them, but the two girls turn around and say they have only ever looked upon them as friends and nothing more. The duo are heartbroken!

In the meantime the girls run into a bit of trouble at the airport when they witness underworld don Tony(Boman Irani) committing a murder. In a spate of events the two girls are arrested for the murder and when the news reaches Pyaare Mohan they pack their bags to Bangkok to save their lady loves.

In terms of a story writers Milap Zaveri and Tushar Hirananandi do a great job with the first half with the setting and characters, but its the second half once the duo go to Bangkok that the movie falls apart. The screenplay too is sound in the first half but goes haywire in the second half. No doubt there there is a given rule with these mindless comedies(GARAM MASALA, NO ENTRY, SHAADI NUMBER ONE etc) that you leave your brains at home, however the second half of the movie actually gets so dumb that it becomes tedious and almost unbearable.

Indra Kumar must be given credit for attempting a comedy with the premise being relatively fresh(blind and dumb characters) and the he aptly captures the mood and tone of a light rom com in the first half very well, but what prompted him to turn the movie into a action comedy with slapstick gags, overdone comedians and change the tone completely back to his crude comedy in the second half? Also why does Kumar make the characters ask for self sympathy as well? I wished that Kumar had maintained the tone of the first half in the second half, and instead of the duo going overseas and the inanity that follows it would've been great to see Pyaare Mohan wittily win their lady loves in India and kept it a rather basic comedy. The climax of the movie is a complete letdown with Pyaare Mohan becoming He-men and enacting a very violent fight sequence which is completely not in sync with the rest of the movie? One must given credit to Indra Kumar as it would've been VERY easy for him to cash in on a sex comedy again after MASTI, but he infact changes lanes and offers a different kind of comedy. However one wishes that he concentrates more on the screenplay with his next venture DHAMAAL(Sanjay, Arshad, Sharman) and not spending money on foreign locales that isn't needed.

Dialogues by Milap Zaveri are great and some are genuinely funny-specially those delivered by Fardeen, Viviek and Boman.

In terms of performances the movie is good-but no one performance is great!

Fardeen Khan plays the blind guy well, although this could've been a comic performance that he could've literally LIVED! He underplays his part very well.

Viviek Anand Oberoi springs a surprise with his performance. This is one of the first Viviek performances I have enjoyed in a long time and he does manage to make the viewer laugh. Viviek dons the doofy and gumby act made famous by Salman Khan in ANDAZ APNA APNA and more recently John Abraham in GARAM MASALA. He is spirited, and the manner in which he keeps trying to lip read did manage to raise a few laughs. He came across as fresh on screen and given that I had NO expectations from Vivek he did well.

Esha Deol and Amrita Rao are nothing more than glamdolls here and all they are required to do is look good-which they do well.

Boman Iranis performance is more a spoof of all those great, over-the-top villains from the 70's and Irani relishes his role and plays it to perfection. Some may find him annoying, but I found him quiet funny.

Snehal Dhabhi is annoying and fails to raise laughs. Ehsaan Khan manages to play a Asian quiet well.

Anu Maliks music is light and entertaining. I found YOU'RE MY ANGEL and the title song both foot tapping and extremely well picturized, although not a touch on Kumars other films.

Technically the film is slick and Sunil Patels camerawork perfectly captures the bright mood and ambience of the movie very well. P.Kumars action too is well canned.

All up PYAARE MOHAN isn't as bad as I expected. The first half is entertaining, but its the second half that really KILLS what could've been a fairly funny film!

Final Rating: * * ½
