A court in Jodhpur, Rajasthan has granted bail Indian Cinema star, Salman Khan, who is currently in jail for poaching rare antelope.

Salman has spent the past three days as an inmate in a Jodhpur jail, after he was sentenced to a five-year prison term on Monday.

As Khan often did not appear at court dates, his councilors assured the judge that Khan would be present in court when required.

Salman’s council approached the court for bail on humanitarian grounds. Also arguing that they had not had the opportunity to cross-examine a key eyewitness.

Khan’s council stated on Monday that they will appeal against the sentence in a higher court.

Last week, his application to summon a key witness who Khan claims retracted earlier statements that he had seen Khan killing one of the Black bucks was rejected by a court.

Khan, 40, has a reputation for irresponsible behaviour. He faces two other court cases relating to a hunting trip in Jodhpur in 1998, also for killing Black bucks.

Nonetheless, his release will delight the film industry, which has millions riding on the star. As Khan is currently involved in seven film projects.
