Filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra wants superstar Amitabh Bachchan to assay a extremely vital role in his next film which will be based on the 7 July bombings in London last year.Although Mundhra's latest film, Provoked, has yet to hit the theatres, the filmmaker is all ready to move on to his next project. The film is titled Shoot At Sight. The film will essentially take a look at how the lives of Muslims in Britain were affected after the near-simultaneous terror attacks in London's tube stations and a bus on 7 July last year. The attacks were carried by four Muslim youths who were British nationals.
Mundhra is said to have already signed the extremely talented Naseeruddin Shah to play an Imam (head of a mosque) as well as the equally talented Om Puri to play the owner of a butcher shop.
In addition to signing these two fine actors, the filmmaker wants Amitabh Bachchan to play a Scotland Yard officer of Pakistani origin. It is said the character is to be based on the real-life Scotland Yard assistant commissioner Tariq Gaffoor, who gained a great deal prominence after the 7 July attacks.
A media report quotes Mundhra as saying: "Amitabh Bachchan would be perfect for the role of a 55-year-old cop who has risen from the rank of constable to commander and is in line for the post of assistant commissioner of police when July 7 happens."
Also, it may be remembered that at the time London Police was given the special authority to shoot any terror suspect in order to prevent a terrorist attack. As a result, a Brazilian national was mistakenly killed in one such shooting.
Mundhra wants the film to go on the floors in August. At the time of publication, there has been no word of Amitabh Bachchan agreeing to do Shoot At Sight or not.
