Indian film star Madhuri Dixit abandoned plans for a return to films two years ago after she learned she was expecting her second child.

Madhuri Dixit was Indian Cinema’s leading lady in the 1990s, but following her marriage in 1999 to a US-based Indian surgeon, gradually she gave up acting. She now has two sons, Arin and Ryan, aged three and one respectively.

According to the edition released this week of the monthly film magazine Cine Blitz, Dixit had signed on to shoot a film with Amitabh Bachchan two years ago. "I was meant to do that film. Everything was planned," she said in an interview with the magazine. "But my second son, Ryan, had different plans. He was like, "Whether you’re ready for me or not, here I come." She went on to say, "“Once I discovered I was pregnant again, I decided I wouldn't work."

Currently on holiday in India, Dixit said motherhood has made her 'hyper'. "Marriage and motherhood made me hyper," she added. "I turned into one clucking hen, chasing my kids, shrieking day in and day out, 'Don't do this, don't do that and don't touch that.'"

She says she is happy with her current 'role' as homemaker and mother, but she does miss acting. "I do miss my craft. I do miss being in front of the camera," she said. "The kids wake up before me. So, they're my wake-up call. The whole day revolves around them and the house. ... It's like a typical, normal housewife's day." However, the right role could entice her back under the arc lights. "I'm looking at worthwhile projects. Otherwise I'm happy," she said.

The last time we saw her on celluloid was for her last hit 2002’s epic Devdas starring Shah Rukh Khan, in which she played the courtesan, Chandramukhi. During which, she was pregnant with her oldest son.
