Seems Mallika Sherawat is being true to her diva-esque ways. Although it is something even the good and great of Hindi Cinema have done, such as Aishwarya Rai, even King Khan himself has done it, but Mallika Sherawat will never.

What is it? Nothing immoral or illigal, simply an item number. Although numerous cine stars have appeared in item songs through out the years, for instance, as mentioned, Ash did it for Bunty Aur Babli and Shah Rukh did it for Kaal, Mallika has said she never will.

A leading South banner recently approached Mallika to do an item number and Mallika has given a flat 'no'. Apparently she claimed that if she's not playing leading lady of the film, she doesn't do item numbers. It may be recalled that Aamir Khan approached her to do an item number in Mangal Pandey - The Rising, however Mallika refused based on the same grounds.

Yet, Mallika is making an exception and doing an item number in Mani Ratnam's Guru. Mallika's reasoning for this contridiction - she says in Guru she's playing an important cameo.

Seems Mallika makes up the 'rules' as she goes along.
