Vidya Replaces Madhuri
By Krishna Jewel | July 10, 2006
Vidya Replaces MadhuriThe much talked about film Suryamukhi, which will based on famous painter Raja Ravi Varma, was to be a comeback vehicle for Madhuri Dixit, if the actress and director could see eye to eye on some points. However, it seems the comeback via this film may not happen after all and the film may have a new leading actress playing his muse in the film.

Filmmaker Shaji Karun, six-time National Award winner, approached Madhuri to play Sugunabai in the film earlier this year, when the actress was in India on holiday with her family.

Reports suggest the film may contain nudity, as some of Raja Ravi Varma's paintings of his muse were. This doesn't seem to have sat well with Madhuri. Despite the fact that Shaji has stated he will use shadows to represent nudity in the film, or perhaps the paintings by Varma to depict the same, it remains to be seen whether Madhuri will consent to the role.

Karun had said that if Madhuri declined the film, he would sign Vidya Balan. According to sources, Madhuri has now refused the role due to the explicit scenes.

However, Madhuri herself feels that with her" ethereal looks and loads of talent" Vidya Balan will do justice to the role.

On her part Vidya is cautious and says,"My dates are yet to be worked out. Let's see."

Shaji Karun has approached Ajay Devgan to play the painter.
