Delhi: Actress Preity Zinta was in the capital on Friday to urge people to save lives by donating blood and supporting this humanitarian cause. The actress donated blood and participated in a blood donation camp organised by the Rotary Club of Delhi in association with Godfrey Philips Bravery Awards.
"Donating blood doesn't kill one but goes on to save somebody's life. Blood donation also creates a universal world," she said, adding, "Once blood is donated it becomes universal and might be used by anyone in need, irrespective of community, caste or region. It binds people together."
Preity has been appointed as Godfrey Philips Bravery Awards new brand ambassador, which are conferred for bravery and selflessness every year.
Preity won the award herself in the past for her valiant stand against the underworld. Defining bravery, she said: "Bravery is something when you fear and you overcome that fear."
In addition to blood donation camps, Preity will also lend her support to the cause of women empowerment for Godfrey Philips.
Supporting a social cause has become the norm for the stars of late and for some ever more so when they have a film release round the corner.
With this in mind, the question was put to Preity regarding the release of her upcoming film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna; the actress reiterated that she does not need an impending film release to do something good for the humanitarian cause. "I'm happy that KANK is releasing but it has got nothing to do with this cause."
