Mumbai: Preity Zinta has always had the reputation of being a sweet, bubbly girl, and some have even gone so far as to call her a 'chubby bubbly girl'. Bobby Deol calls her Pritam Singh, she is Abhishek Bachchan's Basanti but these days don't add chubby to the title. "I am not chubby any more, hello!" she says in an offended tone. Having lost a lot of weight, actress Preity Zinta is looking dazzling and has every right to be offended by being called chubby. "I have a very good physical trainer and a very hectic schedule that is keeping me away from good food."
Don't forget 'bubbly', that seems to come under some scrutiny as well. "I have changed so much as a person. When I started out, I was this chitty-chatty person. But now, I am more calm and composed and I know what I want from life. Let's just say that Rome wasn't built in one day and neither was I!" she retorts.
Many will say the one thing she is, is courageous. She survived the bomb blast in Sri Lanka and tsunami Thailand a few years ago, but did not come away unscathed as she lost some of her innocence and gregariousness, she has also been brave enough to stand up for herself. She also does her part for society, having become the ambassador as Godfrey Philips Bravery Awards new brand ambassador, which are conferred for bravery and selflessness every year. "I have recently become the ambassador of a social responsibility organisation. And I have just donated some blood, and trust me, it is a great feeling to be able to help someone... though I am a bit dizzy now," she smiles.
The actress donated blood and participated in a blood donation camp organised by the Rotary Club of Delhi in association with Godfrey Philips Bravery Awards.
She has said, "Donating blood doesn't kill one but goes on to save somebody's life. Blood donation also creates a universal world," she said, adding, "Once blood is donated it becomes universal and might be used by anyone in need, irrespective of community, caste or region. It binds people together."
Additionally, Preity was given a bravery award because she had the courage to testify in the Bharat Shah case when others did not. "To be brave is not to be fearless. It is when you fear and you get over it that you can be called brave."
However, don't get the wrong idea, Preity is not a superhuman being, she does suffer fear. "I am human. It is not that I fear nothing. But getting over a fear is a continuous process and I have been successful so far," she says.
Currently, Preity is riding high on the international acclaim that Indian Cinema is receiving. "I recently came back from BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and it was incredible. I felt very proud when the Indian films were screened there. The British were surprised by the talent that India has."
Perhaps not as surprised as on might think, after all they knew enough to dedicate an entire week-end to the industry to celebrate it's glory.
