Shooting Causes Security Increase For SRKMUMBAI: On Tuesday, security for actor Shah Rukh Khan was increased following a shooting incident at his suburban Bandra residence in which one of his guards was killed, police said.

Officials said, as a result, the police security provided earlier to Khan has now been increased.

A private security guard named Chandra Pratap Singh, who was on duty at Khan's bungalow, Mannat, received bullet injuries early Tuesday when another guard, Hitendra Singh, accidentally fired at him with an imported firearm.

Chandra Pratap succumbed to his injuries in the hospital before he could be admitted. Subsequently, Hitendra was arrested and the firearm seized, police said.

It was not immediately known if the hugely popular 40-year-old actor was at home at the time.

"It was apparently an accident. An investigation is on," said police officer V.K. Choubey, adding that the two guards were handling a new firearm.

Although Khan's security has not been categorised, police said they had stepped up the security cover in view of the incident.

The firing, in the early hours of Tuesday, spread panic in the upmarket area and people rushed out of their homes, residents said.
