There's a lot more behind the glitz and glam of stardom than most realise. Those in the spotlight have always had to be concerned for their own welfare. Bodyguards and personal security usually surround them, and these days they have much to fear. However, with security going haywire and the actors rising popularity around the world, which usually means good wages, makes them a target in many ways.
Shah Rukh Khan recently had a high profile security incident at his home.
Not long back, Arjun Rampal, too, suffered a very unfortunate security breach.
About four weeks ago, while the actor was in London shooting debut home production called I SeeYou. One day, Arjun returned to his hotel room in the wee hours of morning, he was shocked to find his safe completely empty. "Everything was gone – the money and Meher (Jessia, his wife) and my passport. It was only God's grace that we weren't in the room that night," says Arjun.
Apparently, the hotel room was entered at about 2:00 a.m by a group of men, not only was Arjun robbed, but one of the security men was severely injured by one of the robbers. "The security did do their bit, but the culprits got away. Sadly, one of the security men was hit on the head. He suffered four skull fractures. We paid him a visit recently, and all's well now," informs Arjun. "He is out of danger and in fact, helping Scotland Yard to find the perpetrators. Also, the Indian High Commission there was very helpful and co-operative. They immediately provided us with the necessary documents and permit to get back to India."
Regarding the rising problem with security actors seem to be faced with, Arjun says, "This is a first for me. I’ve never had such an experience before. I guess we actors just have to be more cautious, and at the same time try and maintain a low-profile."
Has this unfortunate experience dampened the spirits of the actor and first time producer? "Not quite! As long as only my personal stuff was robbed and not production material, it was ok. Also, I found myself lucky in a way, as things could've been a lot worse."
