Recently a man took his wife to see the film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, however far from this being an evening out for the two, he used the film to try to convince his wife to leave him so he could marry a bar girl he had met but he subsequently killed her. Karan Johar is appalled at the incident, saying his film does not show negativity or hatred."I am shocked to hear about this incidence of violence seemingly instigated by my movie. Believe me, it was never meant to be that way. KANK tells you to seek love. It does not perpetrate negativity or hatred. When I made the film, I never thought it would incite such strong emotions.
"Of course, I'm happy that it has triggered many questions in the audiences' minds about the institution of marriage. But crime and violence? No way! I'd rather not even think of this incident as something triggered by my film.
"I'd rather believe that the man who committed this heinous crime went to my film by chance. It could have been any other film. He chose mine because it's the most visible film of the moment.
"I know cinema has a lasting effect on the audiences' mind. But to even imagine that a man would get aggressive and violent against another human being is unthinkable for me."
