Sushmita Sen - "Stop Making Assumptions"
By Krishna Jewel | September 07, 2006
Sushmita Sen - Sushmita Sen has been labelled a man-eater; a reputation that is fanned back into flames every time there is a new man in her life or another relationship does not work out.

Unfazed by this, she admits she has always lived life on her own terms, "I have allowed myself to experience different equations in my life shamelessly and unapologetically."

"It's my life and if I make mistakes, they're my own. If I fall in love, I experience it; if I part, I feel the pain," she says. Sush admits that although her 'romantic relationship with Randeep is over', he is a special man who will remain a friend. "One parts when a relationship does not fulfil one's need to grow and not because one is looking for something else."

"I believe in commitment. Not in strangling someone based on that commitment." She refuses to talk about Manav, the new man in her life. "Unlike the other men in my life, this one has asked me for just one thing — he doesn't want to be talked about."

Moving on to her latest project, "Zindagi rocks - from my neck to my back - it's all rocking!" she laughs. Sush always wanted to be a rock star, so, in a way, Tanuja Chandra's Zindaggi Rocks has been a wish fulfilment for her. "I went a bit out of control with the head-banging number," she laughs.

In addition to the stories about her love life, controversies about kissing and steamy scenes in her films seem to hound her as well. The Chingari controversy has not yet died down and now scenes in Karma Cola are already making headlines.

"Look, I can kiss whoever and whenever I like. Why make it a national debate over how it sells? What bothers me is the way it was marketed to sell Chingari. Take HMV and Karma Cola. They have sued the newspapers and I respect them for it," she says.

About The Expat, she states, "The film is confirmed and so is the venue (Argentina). I play a Pakistani expat while Richard (Gere) is a FBI agent. The dates are going haywire. Only Sutapa Das can confirm the dates."

She also says Rani Laxmibai will definitely not create any clash between her and Aishwariya. "I know Ketan Metha is making a film on the same subject but as luck has it she is the only historical figure that has contradictions in every historian's fact — so it gives us a lot of leverage."

Her brush with Hollywood has made her realise that the unorthodox way of the Indian modus operandi has prepared her to work anywhere in the world. "If I were a Hollywood trained actress, I would find it difficult to work anywhere else. If they finish two scenes before time, they wouldn't shoot the third. The actors do readings together and all improvisations done at this time are added onto the script. The film is already mentally edited and every scene has got a certain length in terms of time."

As apposed to the Indian scenario where, "we take all the footage in the world and then make a film or probably end with even two," she laughs.

In regard to the rumours that often make their way around the news agencies Sushmita pleads, "Enough! Stop making assumptions," as she clears her stand on a couple of issues.

The first being an Autobiography: "I am not writing any biography as yet. It was a hypothetical declaration which was printed by the press as a statement from me. I need to spank their butt for doing this."

The second, the Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar film: "Please don't look at the internet as a source of information. If you haven't heard it from me, it isn't true."
