Film goers were not impressed or drawn by the pairing of Tom Cruise and Robert Redford as much as they were by mega superstar Shah Rukh Khan and top director Sanjay Leela Bhansali at the Box Office.Although Cruise and Redford's new film Lions for Lambs pulled in 10.3 million dollars over the weekend overseas, it still couldn't beat the earnings of Khan's Om Shanti Om or Bhansali's Saawariya.
Om Shanti Om topped the box office with roughly 17 million dollars in India, and also brought in 1.5 million dollars the United States.
Variety reports Sawaariya brought in almost as much with 14.4 million dollars in India, 600,000 dollars in the U.S., 340,000 dollars in the U.K. and 100,000 dollars in Australia.
It wasn't just India where the Cruise/Redford pic didn't win over audiences, "Lions," starring Cruise, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, the film hasn't won in any of major markets internationally. They also faltered in Spain, generating just 2.2 million dollars, followed by 1.4 million dollars in the U.K, 1 million dollars in Germany and 878,000 dollars in Australia.
