Amitabh to play King Lear Few weeks ago reports were that Amitabh Bachchan has signed a Rituparno's English language film, well here are some updates on the film.

The film is tentatively titled The Last Lear, based on Utpal Dutt's play Aajker Shahjahan and is to be a tribute to him.

According to producer Arindam Choudhuri, when Amitabh heard that the film is based on Utpal Dutt's Bengali play, he immediately agreed to work on it.

Interestingly, Amitabh began his career as an actor with Utpal Dutt in Saat Hindustani.

In urently titled The Last Lear, Amitabh Bachchan will play an aging, fading but still passionate Shakespearean actor. Choudhuri states that Bachchan was the first choice for the role of Shakespeare's King Lear.

In addition to Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal Divya Dutta and Shefali Shah have also been signed.
