Abhishek Bachchan has married Aishwarya Rai. The much-publicised wedding has been solemnised at Amitabh Bachchan's home Prateeksha, in suburban Juhu. Following months of 'are they – aren't they' speculations and rumours, Aishwarya Ria and Abhishek Bachchan finally tied the knot last evening (20th April).

The glamorous wedding took place at 'Prateeksha' (one of Amitabh Bachchan's homes) amongst tight security. Abhishek was seen to be thoroughly enjoying himself admits hoards of media and people who had gathered around Prateeksha just to get a glimpse of this popular couple. Abhishek, clad in a gold-embroidered cream sherwani, looked every bit the jubilant groom, waving at his friends and onlookers as he made his way on horseback from Jalsa to Prateeksha for a portion of the distance. Shweta's son Agastya sat astride with him, while Amitabh, Jaya and Shweta danced to film songs like Kajra re and Aaj Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.

Before he started off, younger sister Shweta performed Nazar Utarana to ward off the evil eye.

Later, the Bachchan family got into a Volvo, and travelled the rest of the distance to Prateeksha in that.

The male members of the baraat, like Sahara Group Chairman Subroto Roy, Ajay Devgan, A R Rahman, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Ram Gopal Varma, Sanjay Dutt and Abu Jaani, wore orange turbans, while Anil Ambani wore a red one.

Police were forced to raise their sticks to control the crowds who went wild, as the baraat had entered Prateeksha.

The guest list included people from Indian business and politics as well as the film industry, such as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, industrialist Anil Ambani and wife Tina, Sahara Group chairman Subroto Roy, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, Dimple Kapadia, Anupam Kher, Shammi Kapoor, Vashu Bhagnani and Ashutosh Gowariker.

Preity Zinta who arrived with Ness Wadia. Kajol, who appears to be close to the Bachchan family, arrived in a mehndi-coloured sari with a blue shimming border. Ashutosh Gowarikar, who is presently directing Ash in the historical Jodha Akbar opposite Hrithik Roshan, arrived with his wife Sunita.

Ash arrived with her mother Brinda at 2:10 pm, in a grey Mercedes car decorated wtih roses and white flowers. Ash's brother Aditya followed in another car, while the rest of her family arrived in a Volvo.

The bungalow has been decorated in South Indian fashion, with orange and yellow marigold flowers, and banana leaves and fruits. For those who don't know, Ash belongs to the Bunt community of coastal Karnataka (Mangalore and Udupi districts). Apparently, the bride has chosen a maroon Kangeevaram sari for her special day, keeping with tradition.

According to sources, the main ceremony was a short and simple, adding that Ash's bidaai will be held early morning on Saturday at her Bandra residence.
