After a period of mediocrity, all eyes on 'Ta Ra Rum Pum'
By Raj Giri | April 26, 2007
After a period of mediocrity, all eyes on 'Ta Ra Rum Pum'It's been a slow year thus far in Bollywood. With only a handful of biggies released this year, and only a fewer amount hitting the bulls eye at the box office, Bollywood is hoping for a turn around.

So far this year, there have only been a handful of major films released, those being Guru (72%), Eklavya (63%), Salaam-E-Ishq (47%), Namastey London (56%), and to an extent, Shakalaka Boom Boom (37%). Of those films, only Guru and Namastey London have set the cash registers jingling. Guru, which released in January, remains the biggest hit of the year till date.

This summer should provide some relief as Cheeni Kum, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Chak De India all gear up for release. But before those hit the screen comes this Friday's Ta Ra Rum Pum, from Yash Raj Films.

Ta Ra Rum Pum stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji and is directed by Siddharth Anand, who also directed the Saif Ali Khan starrer Salaam Namaste (61%) and penned the screenplay for the Saif - Rani starrer Hum Tum. The music of the film has done reasonably well, scoring a 61% with critics (for all music reviews for the film, or to listen to the soundtrack, click here).

The last several weeks have been a disappointment to say the least. With the critics, every release except for Bheja Fry (55%) has been ripped apart. Last week's Kya Love Story Hai scored only a 24% with the critics, with only 1 of the 21 critics reviews it has being positive! That is poor to say the least.

The prior week's films were also poor. Sunny Deol's Big Brother barely managed to get a score better than Kya Love Story Hai, with a 25% (which is very bad) with 13 critics reviews, while Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee is at a 41 %. The only fairly positive news has been the low-budget Bheja Fry, which is at a 55% (which is average) with 24 critics reviews.

Let's hope Ta Ra Rum Pum provides some relief for the industry! Make sure to check here later on this evening and throughout the weekend as we start posting critics reviews for Ta Ra Rum Pum as they come in.
