Big B Speaks On Global Warming At IFAAAt the Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA)in Leeds, England, superstar Amitabh Bachchan issued a warning over the dangers of climate change Thursday at the official launch of the ceremony.

India is particularly vulnerable to climate change, Bachchan said, and called for other Bollywood stars to join him in his bid to raise the profile of the issue.

Prince Charles appeared in a video message calling for swift action over global warming, after which Bachchan spoke on the issue and said he was "absolutely thrilled" to walk up the symbolic green carpets which have replaced traditional red ones at the event.

Evidence for global warming is compelling, he said, adding that India would be greatly affected by rising sea levels.

"India also needs to be aware of global warming because of the fact that it is a vastly and rapidly developing economy, an economy that is creating a huge number of the middle class moving up... spending a lot of money," he said.

"That is why India is becoming very prominent as far as global warming is concerned.

"We do want to insist on this factor as many times as we can.

"I hope that through our deliberations, through my voice and through my face, I will be able to impress upon other members of my community who are equally important to this cause because they have a face and they have a voice."

He added that some reports had suggested the world had eight years to take action.

"I think that eight years is a very short amount of time for any kind of rectification to take place," he added.

"But it can help and it will help if people from various walks of life come together and increase the awareness of what needs to be done in this direction."
