Akshay replaces Amitabh in Mehta's next & 'Roadside Romeo' gets cutNews has been buzzing all over that superstar Akshay Kumar will be starring in Deepa Mehta’s next film. But ApunKaChoice.com is reporting that Mehta’s original choice for the main lead in Komagata Maru was Amitabh Bachchan. The article states that although Deepa Mehta was all set to have the Big B play the historic character of Gurdit Singh, the Canadian government (who are also the co-producers of the film) insisted that the main actors of the film must be Canadian citizens. Coincidentally Akshay Kumar just happens to be a permanent resident of Canada and is now all signed up to play the part. When asked how it feels to be working with Deepa Mehta, Kumar replied “I am not used to working with Oscar nominated directors so it is a great privilege for me to work with Deepa Mehta.”

ApunKaChoice.com is also reporting that the much awaited YashRaj animated film Roadside Romeo starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, is having difficulties making its October 24, 2008 release date and has cut the length of the film in order make the deadline. It seems director Jugal Hansraj has faced several challenges while making this movie, with reports claiming that the creative team of the film was changed mid way of the process and that relations with co-collaborators Disney studios have gone sour. However, Yashraj Films deny any such news.
