For Susindran it is a labour of love.
"I grew up in rural Tamil Nadu seeing my father play the game like a champion and always wanted to create a film on the subject," Susindran said.
"Though the sport has been given a step motherly treatment by the Indian masses, and never reached the Olympics, US returned producer Anand Chakravarthy has spent lavishly on the film," he added.
Lakshman Kumar, a former assistant to cinematographer-director Rajiv Menon, is making his debut as a cinematographer with the movie.
"Along with Kumar, its male lead Vishnu, a former cricketer, and music director Selva Ganesh too are making a bow in filmdom," said a publicist.
Ganesh, a name to reckon with in the field of east-west fusion music, is the son of well-known south Indian classical music percussionist Thetakudi Harihara Vinayakram, also known as Vikku Vinayakram.
The movie is scheduled for a Diwali release.
