'Singh Is Kinng' Off To A Good Start (62%), 'Good Luck' Fails (20%)
By Raj Giri | August 08, 2008
Thanks to everyone who has submitted their thoughts on the new design of AllBollywood.com. It seems like most of you like our new grading scale (where a movie is given a grade between an A - F). We are continuing to make improvements to the site and will have many new features in the coming weeks and months.

The highly anticipated Singh Is Kinng hit screens to a massive response at the box office. According to Bollywood Hungama, the opening weekend should be in the range of Rs. 23cr. to Rs. 25 cr. nett in India and the first week should close at Rs. 42 cr. to Rs. 45 cr. nett in India. All signs of a Blockbuster!

With the critics too, the film has held well. With 21 reviews counted for the film, 14 have been positive, 5 have been average and only 2 have been negative. The film is at a 62%, which earns it a 'B' (click here to see our grading scale) and already makes it the seventh best reviewed film of the year (to see the top movies so far of 2008, click here).

For director Anees Bazmee, this film has the same grade as his No Entry (B - 62%), and is faring much better than his last blockbuster, Welcome (C - 52%).

For Akshay Kumar, this film may just make him the new box office king. Since 2007, this is his seventh release and if it becomes the blockbuster that is expected, it would make it his sixth major hit with Tashan being the only blemish. As far as quality, the film far surpasses his last release Tashan (D - 36%), and is faring better than all his films from last year as Namastey London scored a C+, Heyy Babyy scored a B-, Bhool Bhulaiyaa scored a C and Welcome scored a C.

As for the film's heroine Katrina Kaif, the film may catapult her to the top of Bollywood's leading actresses. Since 2007, Namastey London (C+, 56%), Partner (B-, 58%), Welcome (52%, C) and Race (55%, C+) have all been box office hits, with Apne (53%, C) being her only Average grosser.

Of course, more reviews for the film will be coming in over the next several days, so the grade for Singh Is Kinng may go up or down, so stay glued to AllBollywood.com.

Forgotten in the Singh Is Kinng madness is Good Luck, Aryeman's first release since 2006's Family - Ties Of Blood (D, 38%). Compared to this film, Family - Ties Of Blood is a classic. Most reviewers have stayed away from this film and the ones who didn't have regretted it. The film is at a terrible 20%, earning it an F. Only 4 reviews are in for the film, all negative. If the film holds, it will be one of the 5 worst reviewed films of the year (for the worst reviewed films of the year, click here). More reviews should be in over the weekend which can change the film's grade, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Keep checking this space over the next several days as more reviews for Singh Is Kinng and Good Luck come in.
