Varanasi: Usually known for her sweet disposition, Rani Mukherjee created controversy in Varanasi during the shoot for the Pradeep Sarkar directed Chudiyan for Yash Raj Film's. Apparently, while the unit was shooting on the banks of river Ganga, Rani's security lathi-charged the media persons and her fans gathered there.

The fans were rather aggravated as that they had come merely to watch their favourite actress and yet the security personnel hit them, further more, Rani didn't raise a finger to stop them. Some of the annoyed fans said that even a superstar like Amitabh Bachchan makes it a point to meet his fans when he goes to Varanasi on film shoots.

Agitated by Rani's non-action and thereby allowance of the misbehavior of her security personnel, a political group told her to give an apology in 48hrs or leave the city.

Rani chose to apologise to the media, however added that media persons were also at to blame. She said the media was trying to get too close to her and Konkana Sen Sharma, also shooting for the film.

This is not the first time Rani has run into trouble at Varanasi. It may be remember that the last time was while shooting for Bunty Aur Babli when she entered the 'akhada'(wrestling ring) and danced.

According to the customs of the region, a woman is not allowed to enter a wrestling ring like this.
