They call themselves 'brats with attitude'; Esha Deol and Zayed Khan are still relative new-comers to Hindi Cinema. Although, they have reached the point where the mention of their names does not prompt a puzzled "Who?" Here, in conversation with each other, they laugh at their first experiences in Bollywood and their first impressions of each other. ZAYED: First time when we met each other on the sets, we didn't interact much, it was just 'hi' and 'bye', though we kind of knew each other.
ESHA: Suddenly, I realised that I had to get along with this brat, whom I somewhat knew over the years. It was your first film, and my tenth, so I was clued in.
ZAYED: Oh god, and all these years I thought that I had bowled you over with my charm. But, admit it, ED, there was a comfort level between us. We were both from the same locality, spoke the same lingo and had similar viewpoints.
ESHA: What you're trying to say is that we had the same upbringing.
ZAYED: Well, we both were brats with an attitude.
ESHA: I got mine from my dad, Dharmendra, and not from fame and money (and she playfully flexes her muscles).
ZAYED: What I liked about you was that you were not some untouchable heroine. So I didn't sweat thinking what will happen if I touched you the wrong way during a take. We worked well together.
ESHA: So cool that the industry and the media started linking us together. They were speculating and we were having a good laugh. I have more male friends, and you are a mast, playful guy. So it was no big deal. But I have now learnt that the industry thinks backwards.
ZAYED: I always had more women friends than men, and at home, three sisters and a mother. I have been surrounded by beautiful women all my life, so I was hardly bedazzled by you.
ESHA: Am I not beautiful, Zayed?
ZAYED: Okay ED, you are the most beautiful woman I have ever met. But honestly, you are more of a person to me than a woman. Let me put it this way If you were to learn how to ride a bike, in no time you'll be riding it better than me.
ESHA: There you go again!
ZAYED: Ha ha, let me finish. ED is Bollywood's answer to Angelina Jolie. You are very much in touch with your macho side as well.
ESHA: Just like you are someone who knows what he wants and says whatever comes to his head. It's amazing to think this brat's married now.
ZAYED: And you danced at our wedding. I think it was your best dance performance, yet. And we didn't pay you.
ESHA: But your wife's a smart woman. I knew her even before she married you... we are from the same school Jamnabai we are friends.
ZAYED: In the end, that's what matters. Friendship, like in Main Hoon Na. You know, till Dus happened, everyone I met used to ask me if Main Hoon Na was my first film? After the third or fourth time, I stopped correcting them. Kya farak padhtha hai?
ESHA: Okay, tell me, which was my first film?
ZAYED: Hmmmm
ESHA: See, that's what happens to everyone's first film
