The Man Who Dressed KANK
By Krishna Jewel | August 10, 2006
The Man Who Dressed KANK Mumbai: Fashion/Costume designer Manish Malhotra has styled all the stars of Karan Johar's films. Malhotra says he as turned the cast of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna into typical New Yorkers, with some fancy cuts.

From the time when Manish Malhotra did costumes for Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he has continued to influence the way audiences looked at clothes and Hindi cinema.

From Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham to Kal Ho Na Ho, he has had an indelible stamp on Karan Johar's films and the way people dress.

He does it once again in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Manish Malhotra brings a new flavour to fashion, for example the uncoordinated-chic clothes of Preity Zinta.

"Preity has a classic sensibility. She is young, mature and that shows in her clothes," says the designer.

The 'grunge meets sport' is the look Manish has given to Shah Rukh Khan, with the jackets and sweatshirts. Whereas Rani's style is very sober, as is her character.

"Shah Rukh has been given a very grungy look with patched jackets while Rani's character's finicky mind is reflected in her clothes. Her skirts are A-lined, her clothes streamlined and coordinated," explains Malhotra.

Abhishek Bachchan? He is Manhattan cool personified.

"Abhishek plays a media guy. Savvy, smart, a very Manhattan look. We got lots of suits made for him, with coloured insides."

After Priety's librarian chic and Shah Rukh’s charming and cool look of Kal Ho Na Ho took audiences by storm, KANK is set to create a new wave of visions of elegance and cool.
