Where There's Smoke, Is There A Cigarette?
By Krishna Jewel | August 14, 2006
Where There's Smoke, Is There A Cigarette?Remember the uproar that was caused when the government proposed a ban on depiction of smoking onscreen a few months back?

While Hindi cinema has been unanimous for the most part in their objection against the ban, there was always uncertainty around the actual timeline when the ban would come into action.

Now one has to wonder if Farhan Akhtar, director of Shah Rukh Khan's next release Don - The Chase Begins Again, and the producers are adhering to the correct procedures nonetheless. Or will they be required to answer questions as a result of the smoking that takes place in the film?

It is obvious 'Don' smokes, as SRK is seen flicking a cigarette away in one promo. In their latest 1 minute song promo of Main Hoon Don ends with a cloud of smoke around SRK's mouth as he looks at the screen. While the camera cleverly avoids showing a cigarette in his mouth in the frame, the cloud of smoke remains on screen for several seconds.

One has to wonder if the obvious and blatant use of smoking in Don, as the flicking away of the cigarette and the smoke around his mouth suggest, will put the filmmakers and it's star on the firing line in the coming days?

Only time will tell.
