Can you remember the last time Ram Gopal Varma made a film without there being some form of problem? The last time he made a film without a cast member or two walking out? His remake of the classic Sholay would have been on the floors by now, if not for more difficulties.
We have been hearing about the fact Ramu has been thinking of remaking Ramesh Sippy's 1975 super-hit for some time now, but the film has yet to go on floors for one reason or another.
First, there was a bit of a shuffle in the cast of the film as Abhishek Bachchan was replaced with Ajay Devgan. Then, Varma became busy with other projects, putting his 'dream film' on the backburner.
Most recently, the film was supposed to go on floors a few days back, beginning with the shooting of the scenes smaller stars first.
However, that did not happen either and apparently shooting has been put off till the third week of September.
Some reports suggest that there are differences between Ajay Devgan and Ramu over the script. Devgan plays the buoyant Veeru (played by Dharmendra in the original). While the speculation is Devgan wants certain changes in his part in the film, there hasn’t been any confirmation of this by either Devgan or Ramu.
However, the spokesperson of the production house, Factory, confirms Devgan is still part of the project and the film will go on floors in September, saying all the main stars have given their dates from that month.
Ramu's Sholay will star Amitabh Bachchan as Gabbar Singh. Mohit Ahlawat will play the stoic Jai, while Katrina Kaif will play the widow Radha.
