By Krishna Jewel | January 13, 2007
Sushmita Sued For Chastity RemarksSushmita Sen has found herself in a bit of a legal muddle.

A Madurai-based advocate has filed a criminal complaint against the former Miss Universe for her alleged remarks regarding chastity.

Reportedly, the actress made some explicit remarks about chastity in an interview in South India. She was filmed saying, "Chastity has no meaning in the current period, and it applies to both men and women". On 6th November 2006, the interview was telecast on all major channels. It was also published the next day in a Tamil daily.

Advocate S Greesh Kumar said the remarks made by Sush were "sweeping in nature, and directed towards all Indians." Additionally, he said Sushmita Sen is a a popular celebrity with universal appeal. Taking that into consideration, her words impact the young society to a great extent. Therefore such remarks are illegal, unfortunate, and liable to be dealt with as per the law.

The complaint has already taken action under the Indian Penal Code and Indecent Representation of Women Act. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for 23rd February, 2007.
