London: In a complete turnaround, Celebrity Big Brother housemates Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd have both apologised to Shilpa Shetty in an attempt at reconciliation that comes a bit late in the day.

Their attempts on Thursday night came as their careers seem to be crumbling as a result of their words and actions.

Shetty and Goody had a heart to heart on Thursday evening, which was initiated by Goody, who said: "I know that what has happened has not been nice for you... and a lot of stuff got said the other day from you and from myself. I didn't say it in a racial way... I do not judge people by the colour of their skin."

Shetty replied: "I know that, I don't think you're racist. I really appreciate that you took the first step." The pair then hugged and made up after giggling over how trivial the argument was.

As the housemates went to bed, Lloyd in turn apologised, crouching beside her bed to claim she was "disgusted" by her behaviour and admitting she felt intimidated by Goody. Shetty appeared to accept Lloyd's apology, saying: "Give me a hug."

Meanwhile, Channel 4 announced that it would donate its profits from the latest Celebrity Big Brother eviction phone vote to charity after the row about alleged racist bullying. Both Jade and Shilpa are up for eviction, with Jade the hot favourite to go.

Complaints from viewers about the race row soared to more than a whopping 36,000, as Big Brother's sponsor Carphone Warehouse suspended its affiliation with the show, nonetheless Channel 4 remained defiant about the show but agreed to Labour MP Keith Vaz's calls for it to donate its proceeds from the phone vote to charity. A Big Brother spokeswoman said the money would be distributed between charities nominated by the contestants at the end of the show.
