'Jab We Met' delights, 'No Smoking' trashedThe reaction from critics for this weeks new major releases were like night and day. On the positive end, Jab We Met surpassed expectations and is scoring a very positive 62% early on. We already have 17 reviews for the film, of which 12 are positive, 3 are average and 1 negative. That number may go up or down over the next few days as more reviews for the film come in. One of the positive reviews is from our own reviewer Sundeep Maan who gave the film a perfect 5 stars, saying that it is "A revivifying presentation laced with infectious comedy complete with soul, makes Jab We Met a meeting that certainly garners top place in your diary". On the other end of the spectrum was Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking. Kashyap's last release Black Friday (80%) is the best reviewed film of the year so far, surpassing other criticially acclaimed films like Guru (72%) and Chak De India (71%) (for the top 20 films of 2007, click here). To say expectations were high for this film would have been an understatement.

No Smoking not only does not meet expectations, but performs way below them. The film is currently at a 27%, which is 'Very Bad'. For a comparison, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag had a 29%. Like with Jab We Met, that number may go up or down over the next several days as more reviews come in. Last week's release, Speed, continues to get hammered by the critics. With 25 reviews now in for the film now in, it is at a 27%, which is 'Very Bad'. Of the 25 reviews, only 1 was positive, 2 average and the remaining 22 were negative.

Other recent releases see Bhool Bhulaiyaa remaining at a 52%, which is average with 35 reviews. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag has risen slightly to a 44%, however it is still 'Below Average' with 39 reviews.
