By Raj Giri | December 28, 2007
'Showbiz' and 'Hanuman' mixed, updates on 'TZP' and 'Welcome'After the mega-releases of Taare Zameen Par and Welcome last week, this week we see two much smaller releases in Raju Khan's Showbiz and Anurag Kashyap's Return of Hanuman.

Showbiz, the latest from Mahesh Bhatt's production house, is already off to a tepid response at the box office and the reviews sure won't help it. With 5 reviews in so far, the film is only at a 34% which is 'Very Bad'. All 5 reviews have been negative. For all current news and reviews for Showbiz, click here.

Faring much better is the sequel to 2005's Hanuman (53%), Return of Hanuman at a 54% which gives it an 'Average' tag, almost identical to the 53% scored by the original. With 7 reviews for the film so far, 4 have been positive, 2 have been average and 1 has been negative. This is much lighter fare from director Anurag Kashyap, as his last films were No Smoking (32%) and Black Friday. For all current news and reviews for Return of Hanuman, click here.

Meanwhile, Taare Zameen Par continues to receive impressive reviews and is now the best reviewed commerical film in over a year, since 2006's Lage Raho Munnabhai (81%). It is now the best reviewed commercial film of 2007, beating Guru (72%) and Chak De India (71%). It is the second best reviewed overall film of the year, slightly behind Black Friday (80%). Of the 43 reviews we now have for the film, 41 of the reviews are positive and 2 average, with no negative reviews. For all current news and reviews for Taare Zameen Par, click here.

The hat trick is official for Akshay Kumar, as Welcome is now his fourth major hit of 2007! Even more impressive is that the film had a bumper opening all over of 95% with new records being set at single screens, and it met and surpassed Om Shanti Om (65%) at many centers! On top of that, the film is a testament to Akshay's star power as the film has received average reviews from critics, whereas Om Shanti Om had received positive reviews. As a matter of fact, this is Akshay's worst reviewed film of the year, behind Heyy Babyy 58%, Namastey London 56% and slightly behind Bhool Bhulaiyaa 52%, however it will probably be his biggest hit of the year. Currently the film is at a 52%, which is 'Average'. Of the 38 reviews we have for the film, 19 have been positive, 8 have been average and the remaining 11 have been negative.
