The cinema release in India of Water - nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category - was slated for the 23rd of February, has been postponed by one month to March due to the the Academy Awards being set for 25th February.

"Deepa Mehta will be busy with the Oscars and will have no time to promote Water in India. Hence, it has been decided to release the film on 23rd March," a source connected to the film said.

This will mean that the release of Mira Nair's The Namesake and Deepa Mehta's Water on the same date - 23rd March will see a potintial clash at the box office.
