Movies come, releases and vanishes, but there are few which leave an impact on viewers mind. So are the movies made by Producer and Director Vipul Amrutlal Shah. After the great success of earlier movies he's come back with Namastey London. It is a family entertainer film, with a north Indian flavor especially because Akshay Kumar's character in the film belongs to Punjab. Akshay, Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor, Upen Patel and Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh are in the lead role.In 2002, Vipul Shah debuted as a director with a multi-starrer film, Aankhen. In 2005, he turned Producer with the film, Waqt - The Race Against Time (57%). And now, has come up with his latest film Namastey London.
The story and screenplay of the movie is done by Suresh Nair. Himesh Reshammiya has composed all the songs while Javed Akhtar has written the lyrics. The film is about the new age global Indian attitude - 'Proud to be Indian'. One side of the story says 'You don't have to loose your identity and become somebody else; you can win over any situation by staying within the framework of Indian culture. The flip side of the story is the NRI culture, which considers the adopted country as a homeland and rejects Indian culture. So, the film is about an NRI girl who meets a boy completely Indian at heart and the story follows.
Jazz (Katrina) is married to Arjun (Akshay) against her wishes. Although Arjun loves her more than anything, Jazz sees him as just a rustic farmer who cannot even speak English properly. She refuses to acknowledge the marriage and longs to be with her British boyfriend Charlie Brown. Arjun's love for Jazz remains unchanged even when he realizes that she feels nothing for him. A good-hearted man that he is, he won't force anything upon her. He decides to win her love instead. Jazz returns to her former life and wants to marry her British boyfriend. In pursuit of his beloved, Arjun lands in London. Soon he begins to win everyone's heart with his simple, straight-hearted and jubilant nature. But the question is: will he win Jazz's love?
The intrinsic message of Namastey London is that true loves means giving, rather than demanding. The movie's protagonist 'Arjun' (Akshay Kumar) is the embodiment of this. The movie also gives the message that Indian culture or values are in no way inferior to the western ones. The story of the film is about returning to one's root. There is also an angle of Indo - Pak friendship provided by Rishi Kapoor and Javed Sheikh.
Namastey London is slated to hit the theatres on 23rd March 2007.
