While the latest Hindi releases have fallen short of expectations both critically and financially, with Ta Ra Rum Pum scoring an above average 57% with the critics (with 29 critics reviews) and disappointing at the box office, Spider-Man has taken India by storm, having the best opening weekend of a foreign film ever in India. It was enough to take the top spot at the box office, while Ta Ra Rum Pum had to settle for second.

It has been a lackluster year thus far as major releases go, however things are changing soon with the releases of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Chak De India and the controversial Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay (which has been set for a July 13th release date).

But before all that comes two Amitabh Bachchan starrers releasing on the same day! On May 25th, both Cheeni Kum and Shoot Out At Lokhandwala hit the screens. While the former is a comedy starring Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu, the latter is an action packed multistarrer that also stars Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Vivek Oberoi and Arbaaz Khan. This weekend sees the release of Ashwini Chaudhary's Good Boy Bad Boy and Anurag Basu's Life in a Metro. Basu's last film, Gangster, did well with the critics scoring a 63% (out of 18 reviews). However, with Spider-Man fever sweeping India, it may be tough for either of these films to make their mark.
