Bips John And Others Racially Abused
By Krishna Jewel | May 16, 2007
Bips John And Others Racially Abused"Racism does exist and we can't deny it,' says Bipasha Basu.

This is an unfortunate thing to have to hear in todays society. However, following the race row involving Shilpa Shetty in the British "Celebrity Big Brother" house, now we hear from Bips, John and the rest of the Goal unit.

Bips is in London for Vivek Agnihotri's latest film Goal. The film about football stars John Abraham and Arshad Warsi and has been shot on some real football grounds all around the UK.

Unfortunately, the shoot has been marred in London by racism faced by the cast and crew at the hands of the English.

Director Vivek Agnihotri confirmed they all have faced racism in some form or the other.

Bips, too, was racially abused, but the strong Bong girl seems to have taken it in her stride and she is unfazed by it.

"It was nothing major, but while Arshad and I were shooting, two white guys started rapping some song which poked fun at Indians.

Initially I was a bit shocked; I have never heard such things in my life. But then I thought forget it, time to move on. No point stressing over it," she says.

When asked what kind of remarks have been made, Vivek says, "John, Bipasha, Arshad and many others used to shoot for long football sequences and that was very ugly. These goras used to pass many remarks about our skin colour, the fact that we are Indians and the superiority complex they had.

There have been times when I have heard racist comments such as 'Bloody Indian' and 'Go back to your country'. However, I have always managed to keep my unit calm enough to never react. I have always told them to concentrate on their work rather than get in to an ugly war of words."

With as popular as Hindi films are in Britain, amongst desi and non-desi alike, plus how hard they lobbied to hold this years IIFA there, we can be certain the sentiments expressed by those encountered by the unit don't reflect those of England as a whole.

During the Shilpa incident, Tony Blair said his is not a racist Britain. Well, let's hope the troublemakers will be few and the rest of the shoot in England can be a happy and peaceful one.
