The award will be both for his cinematic achivements as well as for his contribution to the development of Indo-French cooperation in the field of cinema.

The French government presents the Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award to persons who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to art in France and other parts of the world. The date that Shah Rukh will be given the honor has yet to be decided.
