After much controversy, National Award winners finally announced
After a year of speculation, the 53rd National Film Awards for 2005 were announced yesterday. As rumored for some time now, Amitabh Bachchan bagged his second National Award for Best Actor for Black (79%). Some of the other awardees included Sarika taking Best Actress for Parzania (74%), Black (79%) won Best Feature Film in Hindi, Rang De Basanti (77%) won Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment, Parineeta (69%) won the Indira Gandhi Award for the Best First Film of a Director and Iqbal (68%) won for Best film on social issues. Best Feature Film: Kaalpurush – Memories in the Mist (Bengali), directed by Budhadeb Dasgupta

Best Feature Film in Hindi: Black (79%), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment: Rang De Basanti (77%), directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra

Indira Gandhi Award for the Best First Film of a Director: Parineeta (69%), directed by Pradeep Sarkar

Best film on social issues: Iqbal (68%), directed by Nagesh Mukunoor

Best Direction: Rahul Dholakia for the film Parineeta (69%)

Best Male Playback Singer: Naresh Iyer for Rang De Basanti (77%)

Best Female Playback Singer: Shreya Ghoshal for Paheli (61%)
